Carl Gilbertson, Managing Director
Since the company’s formation in 2000, Carl has been a lead figure in its development as a leading provider of educational support services across the North West. Carl is a regular contributor to NESTA Futurelab and has been published in their journals as well as presented at a number of their seminars. Since 2005, Carl has also been a key figure on a number of national and regional Digital Inclusion strategy boards for Liverpool John Moores University and the North West Development Agency as well as supporting the boards of a number of Education Action Zones and Education Partnerships. For his efforts in the growth of MGL, Carl has also been the recipient of the title, Merseyside’s Young Businessperson of the Year.
Phillip Ramsey, Chairman
Phillip Ramsey is MGL’s Chairman taking over the role from John Mann in November 2010.
Phillip is Managing Director of Clarity Creation, a full service marketing agency based in Liverpool which he founded in 1999. Prior to this Phillip was a researcher and project manager in the higher education sector as well as spending time as a business services manager in a business support agency. Phillip has worked with MGL since its establishment in 2000 and is relishing his more formal role supporting Carl to take the business forward and make it a major force in the education sector.
John Mann, Director
John is MGL’s Chief Executive and was responsible for forming the Company and expanding it to its current profile.
Prior to this John worked at a senior level in a large ICT provider and was responsible for managing one of the first Education Pathfinder programmes, BEON, based in Bristol. Subsequently John was responsible for managing similar programmes across Merseyside.
Andrew Procter, Director
Andrew’s career in IT began in 1994 working for ICL in the Financial Services, Utilities and Ministry of Defence sectors before entering the Education sector in 1998. During the past 13 years he has overseen MGL’s Technical Services department providing management and direction of the business unit. Andrew’s current role as Services Director emcompassed the Hardware sales unit, Techncial Services and Curriculum Services busniess units providing a complete service offering to education clients. Andrew has sucessfully managed projects and lead teams of over 20 staff and continues to provide visionary consultancy to education clients to expliot and expand their ICT infrastructure.
Dawn Copley, Area Manager
Dawn Copley is Area Manager for Manchester and has worked at MGL for the last 5 years. Dawn has responsibility to ensure the smooth running of the Greater Manchester Branch of MGL. This includes responsibility for staffing, client management, operations, business development and the delivery of curriculum and technical contracts. Dawn’s team includes highly skilled and qualified Curriculum Consultants who deliver sessions into our schools and work on collaborative projects, support and advise schools on ICT subject leadership, CPD and in-class support.
The Manchester Technical team support schools with the technical and strategic development of school networks. The team boasts a wide range of varied expertise. MGL technicians can also support schools with their long term plans for ICT procurement and infrastructure. In conjunction with technical team members from Merseyside and Cheshire, they are continually training to ensure their skill sets are in line with school requirements.
In addition to this Manchester’s Business Development Consultants can advise schools on all MGL curriculum / technical services and products, procurment of ICT hardware and infrastructure.
Ally Payne, Design Manager
Ally joined MGL in 2002 and since then has helped to develop the Design and Web team within the company. With a background in design, Ally has had experience in animation, illustration and graphic design. Her role at MGL involves leading a team who work along side schools to develop marketing solutions including printed materials and websites. Ally and the team also work with other educational organisations to develop content and create and maintain MGL’s brand.
