MGL School Computing Conference 2017

The MGL 2017 conference at Anfield Stadium was a massive success, with representatives from over 100 schools enjoying a range of fun and informative workshops on the latest technological developments in education.


Our keynote Speaker Ken Corish, Online Safety Director for the Southwest Grid for Learning and the UK Safer Internet Centre, gave an inspiring talk on current trends in appropriate social media use and the importance of date security in schools. One of the country’s leading experts of E-Safety, intervention and school improvement, Ken is working with MGL’s Teaching Team in promoting the multi award-winning 360 Degree Safe online self-review tool and Online Compass for groups working with young people.


Swimming in Maths – Kevin Keegan from MGL’s Teaching Team will explain the principles and key learning points from the award-winning Swimming in Maths programme, a learning approach developed to support pupils gain a deeper understanding in this subject area. Kevin described the methods used in Swimming with Maths, and how MGL has adopted this to the teaching and learning of Computing through its Diving in Code programme.


Formula 1 in Schools – MGL’s Paul Triggs led sessions introducing the F1 Primary Schools Challenge. The programme involves the design and production of model cars, emulating the processes used in the automotive industry. Paul explained MGL’s approach to working with schools on F1, and demonstrating its value to promote STEM learning at all levels


We were fortunate to be joined by some of our international partners on the day. A special thanks to our friend Mikael Uusi-Mikela from Finland, one of the main developers of Minecraft Education, who kindly hosted a number of sessions on his latest work on in applying gaming technology to use in schools.


We were joined by a range of our specialist supplier partners for the day, providing invaluable expertise to MGL schools looking to invest in new technology to promote innovation in learning.
