From May 2018, schools must comply with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or face financial penalties of up to 4% of their turnover.
The new regulations are designed to strengthen the safety and security of data held by all organisations in the EU – and will still be binding in the UK after Brexit.
For schools using IT equipment that is out of warranty or not running the latest software, there are potential risks with GDPR in terms of meeting its criteria to “ensure the ongoing confidentiality, integrity, availability and resilience of processing systems and services”.
MGL will be running briefing sessions for local schools in early 2018, offering practical advice on how your school can ensure that it is ready to meet its GDPR obligations. For more details, please follow our website over the coming weeks for more details.
