HUYTON PRIMARY PUPILS GIVE SIMON COWELL A RUN FOR HIS MONEY
On Monday 7th December pupils from six Huyton schools took part in an x-factor style awards ceremony at Knowsley Hall to celebrate the culmination of a 2 month long project that has seen them writing and producing their own lyrics, recording songs and filming and directing their own music videos.
Six Huyton primaries; Longview, St Aidan’s, Park View, St Aloysius, St Columba’s and Knowsley Central Support Centre all took part in the project . Thirty pupils across years four to six showed their diverse skills and creative potential in lyric writing, music technology, filming and business enterprise.
The pupils worked together in a rock band to write and produce lyrics for their song. They were given access to apple mac computers loaded with the latest software to produce, record and edit the music for their song.
The project, called ‘Music Marvels’ was developed by MGL, a Liverpool-based leading provider of ICT solutions for schools and was led by songwriter and artist Simon Bradshaw. Simon has a vast amount of experience working in all areas of the music business and has toured all across the US with Kasabian and the Kaiser Chiefs.
As the project developed the children also spent time directing and filming a music video under the direction of trained choreographer Erin Roberts who helped them to deliver the performance of a lifetime. Local artist Lee Donnelly taught the children how to design artwork for their tour t-shirts and other promotional material.
Carl Gilbertson, managing director at MGL said:
‘The children who took part in this project were not only tasked with writing, recording and producing their own songs, they also developed business plans to cover the design and production of T shirts, posters and a CD cover. The project has helped them to develop a whole range of skills from team work and communication right through to use of new technology and business and enterprise skills. We are delighted with the way they took the project to heart.”
120 parents and staff attended the Awards Ceremony which was a celebration of the pupils’ work and their successful collaboration. ‘Oscars’ were presented to the following schools:
St Columba’s – Best Song
