MGL Step AI: A 24-Month AI Transformation Programme for Schools
MGL Step AI provides schools with a structured and supported approach to introducing artificial intelligence across teaching, learning and administration. Delivered over six school terms, the programme helps schools adopt AI safely, responsibly and confidently—reducing staff workload, improving learning resources and creating better support for pupils with SEND and EAL.
A carefully managed journey
Every school begins with a readiness assessment covering its technology, staff confidence, leadership capacity, policies and data-protection arrangements. MGL then works with school leaders to create an implementation plan tailored to the school’s priorities and existing digital environment.
The programme is delivered in three phases:
Terms 1–2: Building the foundations
We introduce school leaders and selected AI champions to appropriate platforms, including Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini and ChatGPT. Staff receive practical training, while MGL supports the development of AI policies, risk assessments, safeguarding procedures and GDPR-compliant working practices. Initial pilots focus on agreed areas such as lesson planning, resource creation and administrative tasks.
Terms 3–4: Expanding effective practice
Following the initial pilot, AI use is introduced more widely across the school. Staff learn how to use approved tools for planning, differentiation, reports, parent communications, meeting notes and curriculum resources. Peer mentoring, shared prompt libraries and practical workflow examples help staff build confidence and establish consistent good practice.
Terms 5–6: Embedding and sustaining change
During the final phase, successful AI-supported approaches become part of everyday school practice. More advanced applications are explored, including adapted SEND and EAL resources, assessment analysis, creative content and administrative automation. MGL helps the school evaluate impact, update its policies, document effective practice and create a sustainable plan for continued development.

Safeguarding and data protection are central to every stage of MGL Step AI. Schools receive support with:
